Q&A: Is it safe for a 20 year old American woman to travel by train (by herself) in Italy?
Question by Evelyn B: Is it safe for a 20 year old American woman to travel by train (by herself) in Italy?
I’m going to Italy and really want to go to Verona or Milan, (but the closest I’m getting is Venice, so I want to take a train there for a day trip…..)
Is it safe for me to travel by myself not only by train but around Italy as well?
I know Italy isn’t totally crime ridden, I’d just prefer to be safe than sorry.

I’ve heard that is NOT safe. Better to travel with a friend, always be aware of your surroundings, and keep your cash, credit cards, passport on your person rather than in a purse or fanny pack. I’ve heard of numerous cases of purse snatching and theft of hotel rooms. Fortunatley I did all my traveling in the 70′s and things were not quite as dangerous as they are now around the world. Kidnapping of Americans is also a concern now in Europe and elsewhere. Too bad it has to be like that, even in our own USA.

Travel with a companion.
Don’t swing your handbag around it will be nicked and you cannot run that fast.
Do not leave anything in your hotel room.
Oh yes wear armour plated knickers or you will get horribly bruised from all the bottom pincher’s.
keep ur eyes open on the night train
Travel on the trains here is safe. Thousands of people do it every day without problems. There are some pickpockets just as there are anywhere you may go, but you just need to take the normal precautions you would anywhere else. Venice to Verona or Milan is a very easy trip that won’t require a train change. There are a lot of young female students in Padova, Bologna, and Florence that travel alone or in groups here.
I’d highly recommend Verona for a day trip.
Maybe with a group thing? I’m 19, and I won’ t travel by myself in a foreign country (besides canada of course, haha) I’m going to Italy and Greece this summer, but I will be with people. Can you grab a friend to travel with you? Just because of that whole safety in numbers thing. If not, I use EF College Break. Its an 18-26 thing, and its cheap packaged things. I’m going to Greece with them this august, and if you want to use them, I have a discount code for them its hesseln1188 and it saves you $ 50. But in the end, it really comes down to being aware. There are LOTS of pick pockets in europe, so hold on to your belongings. But really, I think you need a buddy, at least in my own humble opinon.
whatta cidnapping of people in italy?? hahaha what american propaganda have she heard on lol.
its normal dangerous as in most other places with other words normal.
